Krugman is right

Krugman has been right so many times in the past.
And he is right about this one:

Glad to see you read Krugman. Even more glad to see you agree with him. Ref: zebras. I hope you are saying that humans differ from zebras and lions in that they can plan for and anticipate their future and that they can build societies that serve the needs of the people; societies which are not merely Darwinian laboratories in which profit is the measure of survival. The job of responsible governments is to govern in the interests of the people -- to provide basic workers' protections, pensions, public health care and state support for the poorest citizens. The role of government is NOT serve the lions through privitization, deregulation and union-busting. Sure, after a Darwinian financial collapse, eventually a new system will emerge. But there are choices beyond laissez-faire capitalism. Keynsian economics come to mind. In your analogy, the zebras can't vote. In a democracy, we all can.

BTW, Tom Daschle has to go. Throw him to the wolves. Some of these guys seem to be coming to the dinner table with dirty hands. In any case, there are others more qualified.

Hey B-

Drew put me on to your wonderful blog. I love it. As to tax breaks, it hardly matters as all this dough is being pitched to the wind anyway. $200 billion to the banks so far (plus $1.4 trillion in guarantees) and they still won't lend, preferring to buy other banks and pay themselves bonuses. There's $60 trillion or so in worthless credit-default swaps out there and the current hot contention over a mere $billion is meaningless. Daschele is gone. Strike another blow for integrity.
